Rose Cottage, Chittlehampton
A former blacksmith's on the outskirts of a small village in Devon, the owner of this property noticed damp on a west facing wall. Following our investigation we concluded that inappropriate cementitious render, pointing, and exposed stonework were contributing to driven rain permeating the stone and cob wall, and applied for consent to re-render the wall in traditional lime with hair bedding layer. An excellent local contractor completed the work in 2022 and we are just waiting a break in the traditional west country winter to allow the wall to dry and apply a modern permeable paint, akin to lime wash.
